| Hod
the Fletcher is a time served man who has acquired his trade over
a period of more than 30 years. He is able to demonstrate the
techniques of working the wood of the shafts through all the stages
of production from tree to finished product.
He
will demonstrate all ancillary techniques of employing, production,
and completing all other components of the war shaft. This includes;
the preparation of feather fletchings, the use of linen thread
for whippings, the placement of horn inserts to reinforce the
nocks, and the selection and useage of a wide variety of hand
forged medieval arrowheads.
He
can discuss technical aspects of arrowmaking and their application
in the daily use of arrows - how arrows perform and what makes
the medieval war arrow the paramount offensive weapon of the
14th and 15th centuries.
His
tool box contains a full set of handtools which are appropriate
to his trade and are historically contemporaneous to the 15th
century. He will discuss and demonstrate each in its function
and in the context of its application to fletching.
